About Me

Mary Gress-5536-2_websize.jpg

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Anthropology from Western Washington University, as well as a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Bastyr University. I am a Level-1 Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist through the Gottman Institute, offering research-based approaches for strengthening relationships.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent ten years working in philanthropy and public health, primarily in the Seattle area. This experience has greatly influenced my therapeutic approach, providing me with a deep understanding of working within corporations, community organizations, and diverse populations. It has enhanced my ability to collaborate with clients from various backgrounds and organizations, fostering cultural sensitivity and a comprehensive approach to therapy.

I have experience working with children, teens, adults, couples, families and other relationship configurations. During my own transition into motherhood, I was struck by the lack of available mental health services for families in the perinatal stage of life. My own struggles led me to explore this area further and ultimately refocus my practice to support families and individuals navigating difficulties during the perinatal period. While I specialize in perinatal support, I also offer services for families and individuals at any stage of the parenting journey.

I have specialized training in perinatal mental health, holding a Certificate in the Prevention, Identification, and Treatment of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (Basic & Advanced Topics) from Perinatal Support of Washington. I also completed Advanced Mental Health Psychotherapy Training through Perinatal Support International (PSI), along with the specialized course After the NICU: Supporting Parents' Mental Health.

In addition, I’ve completed Antioch University's Sex Therapy Certification Program and am trained in the Developmental Model for Couples Therapy, a comprehensive framework for enhancing relationships.

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in Washington State (#MC60938612), I am passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based care to support the healing and growth of my clients. I approach my work through an anti-oppressive framework that is culturally sensitive, feminist, sex-positive, HAES-focused, and LGBTQIA2S+ affirming. I am deeply honored to serve my community and love the work I do.
